What is Music Therapy?

Music therapy is the specialized use of music by a credentialed professional who develops individualized treatment and supportive interventions for people of all ages and ability levels to address their social, communication, emotional, physical, cognitive, sensory and spiritual needs. (CBMT.org, 2011)
Human beings are innately musical. From the rhythm of our breath to the beat of our heart, our bodies are constantly engaging in musical activities. Music Therapists implement and manipulate musical interventions based on research studies and through observations on the effects of music on the mind and body.
